Blackout ("the app", "we") operates the Blackout mobile app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Account: when you sign in with Apple we receive an Apple account identifier. During sign-up you provide a username and your date of birth, and you can optionally add a profile photo, a bio and your phone number.
Content: photos, videos, captions, comments, likes and the parties you create or join.
Location: your device location while the app is open, to show parties near you and to place a party you create. We never collect location in the background.
Contacts (optional): if you choose to sync your contacts, you are asked for consent first, and the phone numbers in your address book are then sent to our servers only to find which of your contacts already use Blackout. They are not saved, shown to other users or used for any other purpose.
Notifications (optional): if you turn on notifications, we store a device token so we can send them.
We use your information only to operate the app: showing parties near you on the map, sharing your content with the people allowed to see it, helping friends find each other, sending the notifications you turned on, and keeping the community safe. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing.
Your username, profile photo and bio are visible to other users. Photos and videos posted in a public party are visible to its attendees. Posts on your profile are visible only to followers you have accepted. Private parties are visible only to their host and guests with the invite code. Your phone number and date of birth are never shown on your profile.
Your information is stored by Supabase, our cloud infrastructure provider, on servers in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data.
Photos and videos posted inside a party are deleted automatically when the party ends (parties last between 6 and 48 hours, as set by the host). Posts on your profile stay until you delete them or delete your account. When you delete your account, all of your data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
You can access and edit your profile at any time, block other users, report inappropriate content, revoke location, contacts, camera or notification permissions in your device settings, and permanently delete your account and all of your data from the app settings.
Blackout does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, does not show ads, and does not use tracking cookies or analytics that identify individual users.
Blackout is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has created an account, we delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time and will let you know about significant changes in the app. Continuing to use Blackout after changes means you accept the updated policy.
